What is Insta Trak?

Insta Trak is an image guided surgery system that enables a surgeon to interactively visualize, on a computer monitor, the position of surgical instruments as they move through a patient's sinuses during surgery. The Radiology Clinic aids the surgeon by producing medical images using CT (computed tomography) prior to the surgical procedure.

Preparation

There is no preparation required for this exam. Approximately 20 minutes should be allowed for the scan. You may be at The Radiology Clinic longer than that due to check-in and interview with the technologist.

If you have children, please make arrangements for childcare, as there are no childcare facilities on site. Children are not allowed in the examination room.

What to Expect

You will be asked to remove metals such as earrings and dental work. There is no pain associated with this scan. During the exam you will be asked to wear an Insta Trak headset, which closely resembles audio headphones. The technologist will place an adhesive to the bridge of your nose and earpieces in your ears to hold the headset in place. You will lie on a table for the duration of the exam. Following the scan, this same Insta Trak headset will be sent to the surgical facility for you to wear when you have your surgery.

Follow Up

Your referring physician will be provided results 2 - 3 working days after the procedure.
