Real-time moving X-ray for GI, joint, and interventional studies.
Fluoroscopy is a form of X-ray that produces moving images in real time. It's used to watch processes inside the body as they happen — swallowing, joint motion, contrast flow through the GI tract — and to guide certain interventional procedures.
The technologist will position you on the fluoroscopy table.
Depending on the study, you may be asked to drink barium or other contrast.
The radiologist will watch images on a live monitor and capture stills.
Most studies take 30–60 minutes.
Some contrast agents can cause temporary changes in stool color or mild constipation. Drink extra fluids after the study.
